Crazy Quilt Window Shade

I started the companion to the door, since they are so close together, I can't have one looking ugly lol.

I cut the batting blocks 18x18. I have to make 8 blocks that size. I have a bunch of fish, fussy cut and I will put those somewhere in the block, not necessarily in the center.

I threw the entire bin of scraps on the floor and had to hurriedly pick out large pieces, strips and small pieces to join here and there. I had to hurry because I knew Teddy, (sweet little dog), would soon find out and make his bed immediatley and I barely escaped lol.

I am using large piece and small pieces.Here is the mess on the floor.

The fish seems to be coming out from under something. I like to use that effect.

Crazy Quilt Door Shade

I have been looking at my scrap pin for some time now and it sure needs to be put to some creative use.

My studio door has been needing a curtain or shade for some time now as half the door is glass and the sun comes in real hot. I decided to make a crazy shade out of scraps and also use scrap batting.


I pulled out some novelty fabrics of the movie, "The Lion King". Some fish fabric and a scrap of parrot fabric. I just pulled out a bunch of whatever came up. I was just going to do the blocks from that pile so they would all relate.

I cut some batting scraps and crazy quilted right on the batting. I made eight blocks and those that were too small, I just added patches of more batting with crazy patch. Then I joined the blocks and added four inch borders on both sides, done the same way as the blocks.

I did a pillowcase lining, turned it inside out. I then topstitched it, pulling some of the lining to the front and  it looked like did a binding.

Looking at it on the web, it sure looks crazy to me hahahahah...It is always a good feeling when I can make something out of scraps.

I am going to put some glue on velcro on the door and the shade. I will just velcro it on and take it off when needed.

This is the back of the blocks, joined together with the border.

Here are eight of blocks sewed together. I put a center of interest into each block, eigher a fish or the lion or the monekey et.

The eight blocks with border on the sides only for width, the lenght was ok.

Turtles on Parade

I have now perfected my Turtle, Pin- cushion pattern and it will be for sale at the Sewing Studio in Mailland. My crow and patchwork Lady Grey are there also.

Aren't they just too cute? I had such fun creating them and couldn't stop making them. The fabric possibilities are endless lol. I will now have to create something else.

PUPPY LOVE

Every now and then I have to have a puppy fix. I just love puppies. I have a friend in Ovida Fl, Susan She lives about 10 miles or less from me by the strawberry fields. The last time I picked, I went down the block and low and behold there were puppies.....

I pick them all up one at a time and love them up and get me some puppy love lol. Susan raises these lovely Dachshunds. I am so impressed in their care. They are nurtured and loved every minute of their 8 weeks before they go to their new families.

Susan keeps them in play pens. Each litter has their own pen and there are only two litters at a time. These little darlings make their poopies in a cat litter box, can you believe it? Susan trains them at that you age to do that. It makes clean-up much better.

I was so tempted to take one home the last time I was there, but I still have three doggies so I have to behave but it would have been so easy lol....

How can anyone resist?

The Tree of Life

I found this beautiful Indian Tree of Life at a show. I immediately saw it as a quilt. I washed and ironed it and quilted it and here is the result. It is a beautiful piece of art.

I didn't bind it. I hemmed it the way it was orginally. It measure about 85x95 more or less and will fit a single bed really well. It would also fit a double.

The Muse

I had the wonderful opportunity of taking a class this past week or so, from the wonderful Australian Artist, Susie MacMahon. By sheer luck I found out about this class only seven miles away from me. The class was for three days and in it we learned how to sculpt a doll head and sew the body, special stuffing techniques and adornments.

I never did learn how to sculpt a doll head and this was my first lesson. Susie is a great teacher. She is very patient and very dedicated.

I decided to make mine an African lady of means lol.

I used an African fabric I had bought some years ago and did a draping effect on her and wired and tacked jewelry on her here and there. I made her a turban out of the same fabric.

Her arms are movable so I hooked her into the planter.

I have her standing in a hanging pot and in the back yard, a perfect surrounding. She is actually a wall doll but I think she looks good standing too. Standing in some plants or something, I think.

RAG DOLL AND SWEET HIPPO DOLL

I made some store models for the The Sewing Studio. They have such cute patterns. Anything you want in notions, fabrics, quilting supplies, doll supplies, beads, lycra etc, too much to name, they have it.

This is Emotional Anne lol. She is holding a bat by the name of Sebatian.

Here is a close up of her bat.

She is a sweet simple rag doll and a good beginner doll class. The fabric that was left over from her dress, I made a turtle pincushion out of it. It is on my other blog

Then I made Hilda, a cute Hippo doll. I'll post other models as I get them done. Summer is here and I like to do easy easy and cute, fun stuff..
